Leviticus Chapter 2

Of offerings of flour, and firstfruits.

“Every oblation that is offered to the Lord shall be made without leaven, neither shall any leaven or honey be burnt in the sacrifice to the Lord.” (Leviticus 2:11)

A sacrifice acceptable to God, is a contrite and humble spirit which has no place for earthly pleasures.

“A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)

“Under no circumstances is there an offering of honey. ‘Whatever happens,’ it says, ‘will be impure.’ Honey is a sign of pleasure and sweetness; sensuality as such is never pleasing to God.” – St. Jerome

“Whatsoever sacrifice thou offerest, thou shalt season it with salt, neither shalt thou take away the salt of the covenant of thy God from thy sacrifice. In all thy oblations thou shalt offer salt.” (Leviticus 2:13)

We are to offer the well living of our lives as a sacrifice to God with the salt of wisdom, grace, truth and faith.

“Salt is good, and every offering must be sprinkled with it. Therefore also the apostle has given the commandment: ‘Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt.’ But ‘if the salt have lost his savor, it is cast out.’” – St. Jerome
